Having an amazing time in Adelaide

If you are not into the nightlife scene there are still many things to do on a date. Many people assume that it is more expensive living in Adelaide but there are plenty of free things to do on a date.

There are lots of great day trips within an hour or two of Adelaide, here are some examples:

Relax at Henley Beach, walk along the beach and go for a walk through the parkland or try out one of the restaurants along the strip.

Go for a picnic at Morialta Conservation Park and enjoy views overlooking the city as well as wander through native bushlands and see beautiful waterfalls. Visit during autumn and you might even see some koalas!   It’s about 20 minutes drive from the city and there is a small entry fee.

Willunga is known for its vineyards and it’s about an hour’s drive south of Adelaide, you can enjoy views overlooking the ocean as well as wine tasting.   The town has a great atmosphere with lots of restaurants and cafes to visit during the evening.

Hahndorf is another historic town just over an hour away from Adelaide. Visit the main street which has many great German shops, cafes and restaurants to explore, or go for a walk through the hills surrounding the town to see some stunning views of Kangaroo Island! It’s also home to one of Australia’s oldest breweries so sample some Aussie beer!   During winter it even hosts an annual German Christmas market.

Explore Cleland Conservation Park home to free roaming kangaroos and koalas, during summer it holds a daily animal show at 10am and 3pm where you can learn about Australian wildlife from an expert handler. You can also see the nocturnal house which is open from 8:30-9:30 in the evening so you can experience a nocturnal environment.   It’s only a 20 minute drive outside of Adelaide in Gumeracha.

If you are up for a road trip instead try heading further north through the Clare Valley or head west to explore some wineries in McLaren Vale .  Or why not check out Kangaroo Island just off the coast which offers pristine landscapes, abundant wildlife and some great places to eat!

If you’re looking for something a bit more active check out the Aldinga skate park , with its large bowl and street course it’s perfect for boarders. Nearby you can explore the Aldinga Sculpture Park or walk along the beach at Aldinga Beach which is just 10 minutes drive south of the city centre.

If none of these activities sound like your cup of tea, here are some other ways to help spice up your date night:

* Cook dinner together – after all that time in the kitchen why not try out some new desserts  for dessert?

* Explore one of Adelaide’s many rooftop bars for spectacular views over the city, Kangaroo Island or the Adelaide Hills.

* Try out some of the many food trucks scattered throughout the city which vend gourmet style foods that are perfect for sharing over lunch or dinner! * On a nice day take a picnic to Elder Park and enjoy views overlooking the city or explore the nearby Botanic Gardens .

* Visit a museum – you can go for a fun filled half day at one of Australia’s great children’s museums, Leada  and spend a couple hours exploring its great activities and exhibits, then head across to Migration Museum  for an interesting insight into South Australian history from ancient times to present.
